Cambridge Township Fire Department 85 History

*The Onsted Fire Department started in 1914 with a subscription for fire service. In 1924 it was run by volunteers and Everet C. Robinson was the fire chief and caretaker. A "Ford Chemical" (pictured below) was the first engine purchased.

In 1945 the Onsted Firemen's club was organized with Max Johncox as President. There were 18 firemen at the time. In the spring of 1946 Cambridge Township was the first in the county to own a grass fire rig. Today the fire department is still running strong. The department's dedication, training and new recruits are a source of continuous pride to the entire community.
